How the Brain Learns:  Implications for Teaching and Learning

This session will enable participants to explore how the mind processes information, the role of emotions in learning, and what the implications are for designing, delivering, and assessing quality learning experiences.

Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Examine how the mind processes information.
  • Identify the role of humor in retention of learning.
  • Discuss the role of emotions in learning.
  • Review critical windows of opportunity for brain development.
  • Analyze the difference between short and long-term memories.
  • Discover prime times for learning.
  • Describe how to increase long-term memory.
  • Reflect upon personal “next steps.”
