The Professional Leader's Role in Developing Professional Learning Communities

The professional context in which teachers work has a profound effect on the accomplishments of students in the schoolhouse.  This session will explore the leader's role in identifying and enhancing those elements that promote the development of professional learning communities, and sustain them over time.

Participants will:

  • examine a working definition of Professional Learning Community
  • construct a rationale for Professional Learning Communities
  • analyze the role of culture in Professional Learning Communities
  • discuss and experience activities designed to promote and develop Professional Learning Communities
  • review a variety of strategies to sustain and enhance Professional Learning Communities over time
  • network with colleagues
  • reflect upon and identify personal next steps
