It has been said that "the nature of relationships among the adults in a school has more to do with the school's character and quality than any other factor" (Barth). New research demonstrates a critical link between settings where teachers and administrators collaborate, sharing collective responsibility for students, and higher achieving students. An individual's emotional intelligence plays an essential role in determining if this happens well.
This session will highlight ways to develop a collaborative school culture focused on learning. It will also provide suggestions for cultivating emotional intelligence among all members of the school community. In the process of addressing this vision, the quality of life that educators and students experience in the workplace will be enhanced.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- construct a rationale for developing a collaborative community of learners.
- practice a variety of strategies to build a collaborative school focused on learning.
- examine 5 Domains of Emotional Intelligence and their role in fostering workplace climate and productivity.
- reflect upon personal next steps.
