How the Brain Learns:  Implications for the Supervisory Role

This session will review how the brain processes information and the implications of this knowledge for the supervisory role.

The supervision of instruction and the practice of management by wandering around will be explained and modeled with an orientation towards using the brain research to improve teaching and learning.  Specifically, the session will address "how can supervisory practices promote standards driven instructional practices and assessment?"

Management by wandering around will be examined as a tool for providing data to the administrator about the progress towards meeting or exceeding standards in a building, a way to build a more collaborative culture, and a structure for promoting the use of successful practices across the school.

Session activities will include brain compatible lecturettes, video clips, table group tasks, reflection, and simulations.
