Instructional Strategies for Block Scheduling

For some teachers, having extended blocks of time in which to teach represents a real opportunity.  To others, it represents a challenge.  Participants will have the opportunity to:

  • identify ways to maximize student learning and promote long-term remembering of concepts taught
  • practice a variety of instructional strategies
  • experience ways to make lectures more brain compatible (You'll learn four variations of lecture!)
  • identify engaging ways to vary practice of previously taught information, skills and concepts.
  • analyze a variety of ways to introduce active participation throughout a lesson
  • review a variety of "sponge" activities to sop up time that would otherwise be wasted
  • reflect upon personal next steps
The session will model the use of blocks of instructional time and will be lively, entertaining, and engaging.  Each participant will leave the session with a resource packet of ideas and strategies that can be applied immediately!
