Saturday 9 April 2011 |
The 12th annual Rotary 5K Run for Polio & Quarter Mile Kids Run will be held on Saturday 9 April 2011 at the Rotary Shelter in Winchester's Jim Barnett Park, with the 5K starting at 9 AM and the kids run being held at about 10 AM, just before the 5K awards ceremony. Race day registration and check-in start at 8 AM. The 5K follows a rolling 3.1 mile out-and-back route on paved roads through the park and the Shenandoah University campus, with a short loop through a nearby neighborhood in the middle. (Note: Unfortunately this year's course had to be changed from our previous USATF-certified route due to another event scheduled to be held at the park's War Memorial Building on the same morning. The new course avoids that area of the park.) UPDATE: A course map is now available!
5K awards will go to the top three males & females in the following divisions: Overall, Masters, 9 & under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and 70 & over. All children in the kids run will receive medals. Entry fees for the 5K are $16 for SVR members and $17 for non-members, while the kids run is $11 with a t-shirt or $4 without a shirt. Race day registration is welcome! The fees remain the same on race day. (Preregistration is encouraged, so that we have an idea of how many participants to expect.) Proceeds from the race will go towards Rotary International's polio eradication efforts! Driving directions appear on the race flyer. The Rotary Shelter does not have a street address, but this Google map points to a location just east of the shelter. You can also try the coordinates "39.171, -78.1548" for the entrance to the shelter's parking lot. (A map of the area can be found here; it is also on the flyer.) For more details and an entry form, download the 2011 race flyer (PDF format, 481 KB)! If you have any questions about the event, please contact race director Chris Northrup at (540) 327-9003 or chris@northrupconsulting.com. The race is being conducted by the Winchester Rotary Club with help from the Shenandoah Valley Runners. (The Webmaster hopes to have time to update this site more fully with past results, event records, more detailed driving directions, and more.) |
