The Rotary 5K takes place, appropriately enough, at the Rotary Shelter, on the southern side of Jim Barnett Park in Winchester, VA. Check the map at left for an overview of the area, and/or make use of the detailed driving directions below! (If you want to look up the race on an online mapping site like MapQuest, you won't be able to pinpoint the exact location of the shelter, since there are no street addresses inside Jim Barnett Park. The best you can do is locate the nearest intersection: Bridgeforth Drive at Maple Drive, which is about 0.2 miles northwest of the shelter. Here are maps to that intersection on MapQuest, Yahoo! Maps, and Google Maps.) Excessively detailed driving directions from various places appear below: From Strasburg & points south along I-81: Take I-81 north to exit 313 (Winchester, Routes 50/17/522) and bear right on the exit ramp, heading west towards Winchester. In 0.2 miles (after passing through two quick stoplights), bear right, following Millwood Avenue (Route 50) past Shenandoah University. 0.3 miles later, turn right at a stoplight onto Pleasant Valley Road. Follow Pleasant Valley for 0.3 miles and turn right onto University Drive (there is a sign for Jim Barnett Park and for Shenandoah University). Turn left in 0.1 miles, head up the hill, and in 0.2 miles turn right as the road veers left. From Berryville & points east along Route 7: Follow Route 7 west to Winchester. 0.9 miles after you pass the I-81 interchange, turn left at a stoplight onto Pleasant Valley Road. 0.3 miles later, turn left at a stoplight onto Cork Street. Turn right in 0.4 miles onto Bridgeforth Drive, and follow Bridgeforth for 0.6 miles to the Rotary Shelter on your left. From Charles Town, Harpers Ferry, & Frederick: Take Route 340 south to Berryville, then hop on Route 7 west towards Winchester. Then follow the "Berryville" directions above. From Fauquier County, Manassas, Fairfax, Washington, & other points along I-66: Take I-66 west to I-81 north. Get off of I-81 at exit 313 (Winchester, Routes 50/17/522) and bear right on the exit ramp, heading west towards Winchester. (Alternate route: To avoid I-81 altogether, one can get off of I-66 at exit 23 and follow Route 17 north towards Winchester. In 8 miles, turn left at a stoplight to continue following Route 17 north. 16.6 miles later, you will pass over I-81, and you can follow the directions above from the line "heading west towards Winchester". This alternate route cuts off about 12 miles of driving, but it's only marginally faster.) From Front Royal, Luray, & Rappahannock County: Follow Route 340 or Route 522 north to Front Royal, at which point the two routes join together. Keep following Routes 522/340 north towards Winchester. 14.9 miles after you cross under I-66, turn left onto Millwood Avenue (Routes 17/50). In 0.4 miles (after passing over I-81 and going through two quick stoplights), bear right, following Millwood Avenue (Route 50) past Shenandoah University. 0.3 miles later, turn right at a stoplight onto Pleasant Valley Road. Follow Pleasant Valley for 0.3 miles and turn right onto University Drive (there is a sign for Jim Barnett Park and for Shenandoah University). Turn left in 0.1 miles, head up the hill, and in 0.2 miles turn right as the road veers left. The Rotary Shelter is on the right in 0.2 miles, at the top of a hill. (Alternate route: After coming through Front Royal on Routes 522/340, get on I-66 west, follow it to I-81 north, and then use the "Strasburg" directions above. This route is about five miles longer, but the driving time is about the same.) From the western side of Winchester & points northwest: Follow Route 50 east-- it's Amherst Street as you come into Winchester, then curves a bit and becomes Boscawen Street. Follow Boscawen through the center of town, then after you pass the Cameron Street intersection, take the next right onto Kent Street. 0.1 miles later, turn left at a stoplight onto Cork Street, and follow Cork Street for 1 mile. About 0.4 miles after you pass through a stoplight at Pleasant Valley Road, turn right onto Bridgeforth Drive, and follow Bridgeforth for 0.6 miles to the Rotary Shelter on your left. (Alternate route if you don't want to pass through town: Hop on Route 37 north and follow it to I-81 south, then use the "Martinsburg" directions above.) From Millwood, Middleburg & points east along Route 50: Head west on Routes 50/17 towards Winchester. About 0.3 miles after passing over I-81, bear right to continue following Route 50 (Millwood Avenue) past Shenandoah University. 0.3 miles later, turn right at a stoplight onto Pleasant Valley Road.
