| 2008 Registration Information |
BY MAIL: It's now too late to register by mail. Please don't send any entry forms by mail at this point, because we won't get them before the race. So try one of the other two registration options below! ONLINE: Alas, it's also too late to register online, as online registration closed at noon on Thursday 23 October. So that leaves you with one remaining registration option... RACE DAY: Yes, race day entries are more than welcome! Race day registration will take place in Browntown between 7:45 AM and 8:45 AM. Our t-shirt supply may be limited (see the t-shirts section below), so if you want to make sure you get a shirt, you'll have better odds if you show up earlier rather than later. But hey, if we run out of shirts, you get the $5 no-shirt discount automatically! Entry fees Our base entry fees are $13 if postmarked by Wednesday 8 October and $16 thereafter, including race day. Two discounts are offered: If you don't want a Greasy-Gooney 10K race t-shirt, you get to take a $5 discount, and if you're a member of the Shenandoah Valley Runners, you get a $1 discount. Given these discounts, the fee you pay could fall anywhere between $7 and $16 (not including processing fees if you register online). Here's a handy chart to illustrate the entry fee structure:
Note: Entries are non-refundable and non-transferable. (See the FAQ list for why.)
Because this year will be the tenth running of the Greasy-Gooney 10K, we've decided to splurge and give out "performance fabric" shirts! The shirts will be lightweight Zorrel "Boston unisex training tees", with "Syntrel Extreme Moisture Transport Technology" (oooh!) and a "Silky Hand Feel" (aaah!). They will be red (well, technically "tomato"), and the image at right shows what we hope they will end up looking like. UPDATE: The shirts did not come out as I had hoped. The out-of-the-area printing company we used this year did a nightmare of a job with my original artwork, and I am extremely displeased with the end result. (I will post a photo or two here shortly.) Now, the shirts themselves are fine, and many of you are probably not even going to notice the various problems with the artwork. But as an aesthete when it comes to graphic design, I am horrified by what they did to my baby. As a result, I am prepared to offer a $5 refund to any preregistrant who is dissatisfied with the shirt. I'm embarrassed to be stuck giving all of you shirts with an extremely sub-par version of my original design. As always, we do not order a huge number of shirts, because we don't want to be stuck with a big pile of leftovers. So our shirt supply may be limited on race day. Shirts will be set aside for preregistered runners and volunteers, and race day registrants will have pickings of whatever's left. As of 21 October, we have 62 shirts remaining: 10 smalls, 19 mediums, 24 larges, and 9 extra-larges. If you want to reserve one of these remaining shirts for yourself, mail in your entry form or register online right away! These special shirts are putting us way over budget, but nine-time finisher and friend of the race Bob Gurtler has made a generous donation to ensure that we'll be able to cover the extra cost. So many many thanks to Bob for his help! Bob is the mayor of The Plains in Fauquier County, Virginia, so all of you should go shopping or dining sometime in The Plains sometime soon and tell 'em the mayor sent ya! |
