Spunkie was a small deer. We knew her for 11 years. The first time I saw her looking at me about 30 yards away I started humming softly. She stood there for what seemed about 30 minutes while I hummed, sang and whistled. The repore had started. She would show up and be given some shelled corn to eat. Sometimes she would be leaving before we saw her. We would just go out with the corn and call to her and she would come back and eat the corn with us nearby. Every year she produced two fine fawns who would stay with her until they were almost twice her size. The last two years she was here when she was nearing the time to give birth we would see her lying down and then lying down again only about fifty yards further away. We knew she was getting old.
