Valentine Express

What you will need:

JASC's PSP 7.0 (30 day free trial)- You can get it HERE
My selections, fills and bevel presets (put the bevel presets in your PSP preset folder) you can get HERE
Fonts used:
Times New Romance can be downloaded at this site.
The Love Poision can be found at this site.
LM Valentines can be found at this site. Since I could not find this font when I first wrote this tut, and rather than re-write this tut the selection I made from this font is still in the zip file you can either use it or the font the chose is yours. The letter I used was N.

This is a selection tut but can very easily be done using the vector shapes provided with PSP. So please feel free to draw it out using the shapes. Also this tut assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP.

Please feel free to use anything you like for the decorations as most of you know tuts are not set in stone and your feel to do what you like when creating from it. Some tuts such as this one are just fun tuts and then there are the tuts that I call teaching tuts which actually teach you something you didn't already know, but this one is not one of them so have fun and do what you like.

So if your ready let's get started. :) Don't forget to Save as you go.

Engine

Step 1:
Open a new image 800 x 850, 16 million colors, transparent background. Add a new layer and load the 1_smokestack1.sel from disk. Flood fill with black. Deselect. Apply the inner bevel Express1.

Step 2:
Add a new layer and load the 1_smokestack2 from disk and flood fill with white. Selections/Invert and apply this drop shadow
Vertical and Hortizontal set at 0
Opacity 100
blur 34.6
color #800000

Step 3:
Add a new layer and load the 1_smoke.sel file from disk and flood fill with white. Selections/Invert and apply this drop shadow
Vertical and Hortizontal set at 0
Opacity 80
blur 27.1
color #808080

Step 4:
Add a new layer and load 1_cab.sel from disk. Open the pattern heartfill_1 provided in the zip or one of the other patterns provided in the zip and flood fill with the pattern. Go to selections/invert and apply a drop shadow,
Vertical and Hortizontal set at 0
Opacity 100
blur 42
color #400000
If you use another pattern fill use a different color for the drop shadow. Staying on this layer load the 1_window.sel from disk and hit your delete key. Keeping the heart selection add a new layer and flood fill with white. Lower the opacity to somewhere around 40-50 %. Selections/Invert and apply this drop shadow
Vertical and Hortizontal set at 0
Opacity 100
blur 42
color black

Step 5:
Add a new layer and load the 1_cab bottom.sel from disk. Flood fill your selection with #FF0000 or if you used one of the other pattern fills for the cab, flood fill with a color that compliments it. Go to selections/invert and apply a drop shadow,
Vertical and Hortizontal set at 0
Opacity 80
blur 42
color #400000
Move this layer below the cab and window layer.

Step 6:
Add a new layer and load the 1_wheels.sel from disk and flood fill with black. Deselect. Apply the Inner bevel Express2.

Step 7:
Staying on this layer load the 1_inner wheels.sel from disk and flood fill with #E3E1E1.

Step 8:
Add a new layer and set your forground and background color to white and using your text tool and the Times New Romance font, size 48, Floating and Antialias checked type in Valentine Express or words and font of your choosing. Move into position. Deselect. Apply a drop shadow
Vertical and Hortizontal set at 2
Opacity 100
blur 4.9
color black.

That's it for the engine. You can now merge visible and save. Be sure to leave the first layer and the window layer, the one where the opacity was lowered, invisiable before you merge so later if you want to add something to your windows you won't have to create another layer as it will be there waiting for you already. :) Save as a PSP file instead of a tube.

To add an image to your window click on the first layer and put what you like into your window. Add a layer and load the 1_window.sel from disk. Go to selections/modify/expand and expand this by 2 and flood fill with a color of your choice, black, grey or the red we used. Move this layer to the bottom. Then go to selections/invert and click on your image layer and hit your delete key. This will remove any of the image you put into your window that is outside the engine. Now if you didn't merge the window with the opacity that was lowered with the engine you can now either lower the opacity some more or you can bring it up some. Whatever looks good to you. And that's it. When your ready let's move on to the car.

Car

Step 1:
Open a new image 570 x 525, 16 million colors, transparent background. Add a new layer and load the 2_bottom.sel from disk. Flood fill with heartfill_1. Selections/Invert and apply this drop shadow
Vertical and Hortizontal set at 0
Opacity 100
blur 42
color #400000

Step 2:
Add a new layer and load the 2_top.sel from disk and flood fill with #FF0000. Selections/Invert and apply the same drop shadow.

Step 3:
Add a new layer and load the 2_wheels.sel from disk and flood fill with black. Deselect. Apply the Inner bevel Express2.

Step 4:
Staying on this layer Load the 2_inner wheels.sel from disk and flood fill with #E3E1E1.

Step 5:
Add a new layer and load the lm font decoration.sel from disk (or if you have the font use the letter N) and flood fill with #white. Deselect. Apply a drop shadow
Vertical and Hortizontal set at 2
Opacity 100
blur 4.9
color black.

That's it for the car. You can now merge visible and save. When your ready let's move on to the caboose.

Caboose

Step 1:
Open a new image 570 x 750, 16 million colors, transparent background. Add a new layer and load the 3_cabtop.sel from disk. Flood fill with your pattern choosen for the other two. I used the heartfill_1. Selections/Invert and apply this drop shadow
Vertical and Hortizontal set at 0
Opacity 100
blur 42
color #400000
Staying on this layer load the 3_window.sel from disk and hit your delete key. Keeping the heart selection add a new layer and flood fill with white. Lower the opacity to somewhere around 40-50 %. Selections/Invert and apply this drop shadow
Vertical and Hortizontal set at 0
Opacity 100
blur 42
color black

Step 2:
Add a new layer and load the 3_cabbottom.sel from disk and flood fill with #FF0000. Selections/Invert and apply this drop shadow
Vertical and Hortizontal set at 0
Opacity 100
blur 42
color #400000

Step 3:
Add a new layer and load the 3_wheels.sel from disk and flood fill with black. Deselect. Apply the Inner bevel Express2.

Step 4:
Staying on this layer load the 3_inner wheels.sel from disk and flood fill with #E3E1E1.

Step 5:
Now I used the Love Poision font for decoration, small letter q, created as vector so that I could resize it to my liking, and both the background and foreground colors set to white. When you have it to the size you want convert to raster layer. Then apply this drop shadow
Vertical and Hortizontal set at 2
Opacity 100
blur 4.9
color black.
Make a copy and paste as new layer and move it into position.

To add an image to your window, just follow the above instructions for the engine, except you will load the 3_window from disk instead of the 1_window.

That's it for the caboose you can now merge visible and save.

To conbine them I just added a new layer and used the draw tool set at Single line, width 10, antialias checked and drew two lines. Since I like layers my lines were actually drawn on two different layers so that I could get them lined up with each other. My finished train was 1850 x 800, so make sure you resize it before submitting to any groups. I resized the one above by 35 %.

That's it we're all done. Wasn't this fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope that you enjoyed this tutorial as much as I enjoyed making it for you.

Copy write info: As you all know that this is copy write to me (ziggy aka Donna). However, I know that there are a lot of thieves out there, and I just want you all to know that you have my permission to put it on your site, however, yes there is a catch or two, please do not claim it as your own, do not alter the graphics and do not remove my e-mail address. You did not do this tut and therefore have no clue on what problems may arise and by removing my e-mail address people will not be able to e-mail me if they need help. I spent a lot of time doing these tutorials and writing them, and I'm asking for only a few things from you. I think I'm being more than generous, as most tut writers would not do this. So please abide by my few rules. You may also use a text link to these tuts if you like. Thank you.
