Church Musician Opening
Broadway Presbyterian Church, Broadway, Virginia, is soliciting
applicants for the part-time position of Music Director (ie.,
pianist/organist/choir director). Besides playing piano and organ
for the eleven o'clock Sunday worship service, responsibilities include
rehearsing with the Adult Choir on a chosen weekday evening (except
during the summer months) and fostering the Children's
Choir.
The church's Allen organ is the preferred instrument for
accompanying congregational singing. (Applicants who do not have
organ proficiency, but who are willing to seek to develop organ
proficiency are encouraged). Traditional, four-part music is
regarded as an essential element of worship by members of this
congregation. The church's music library of anthems is extensive.
Compensation, schedule, and duties are negotiable and
flexible. The currently budgeted salary is $120 per week.

The church has been served by a number of talented organists,
including Edgar T. Branner, Charity Knighting Stevens, Sandra Taylor
Anzuini, Sarah Fawley, and Barbara Bowman. Substitute musicians
within the last year have included Richard Wurst, Janet Hadley, Virginia
Bethune, Adair McConnell, and Katie Myers.
