Herper (Her-per) n. A person who keeps reptiles.

My reptile background.
The story of reptiles and myself began 17 years ago. When I was 10 I had to do a project for science class, I was assigned to maintain a terrarium of plants. A week before the project was done I was walking through the mall with my parents and my father grabbed me and took me into a pet store. I was told that i was getting a critter to put into my terrarium for the science class. I saw my first herp that day.I have kept a lot of animals including leopard geckos, green anoles, ball pythons, burms, reticulated pythons, rock pythons, a nile monitor, bearded dragons, corn snakes, and tree frogs. I have even found a wife that loves these misunderstood animals as much as I do.
